River's Edge

I am a lover of the outdoors. Although I am from the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia and saddled between beautiful mountains, I am most drawn to majestic snow-covered tall peaks and alpine ecosystems. I knew this piece would be challenging considering it contained mountains, foliage, and water, but I wanted to see how I could express what I saw using mostly Unison soft pastels. I am a huge animal lover, and the bear was the most fun part to paint. I tried to portray a pensive mood as he stared into the distance, perhaps satisfied after a meal thinking about important brown bear things.
