Chair, with Friends

A challenge in our local art guild resulted in my drawing one of our dining chairs, lighted by the afternoon sun. It's a beautifully designed chair, very comfortable, with interesting details. I drew it many times, experimenting with different orientations of the chair, and overe-all compositions. Unlike many of my colleagues, I didn't include a person -- the chair has sufficient presence and character on its own. I did, however, add elements -- the book, glasses, cup and sandals -- to suggest a reader had been sitting here, but recently departed.
