Monument
This painting shows the remains of a grand spruce next to the Cape Lookout trail on the Oregon coast. Just over the ridge, the cliffs plummet hundreds of feet into the Pacific Ocean. On the day we found this tree, the fog was drifting in and out of the woods, often obscuring the path not far ahead of us. It opened up just enough for the sun to break through by this great monument to a fallen denizen. Various soft pastels on Hahnemühle Collection Sketch paper.
