When Time Stands Still

This mountain rises abruptly from grassland and sprawls across the horizon. Sunset doesn't try to be discrete as it rolls across ranch country in Far West Texas, so in painting this landscape, I let both land and sky star equally. The apex of the mountain captures sky color and tosses it back, while clouds above and grass below vibrate rhythms to one another. Lightly applied layers of pastel pigment partner with this composition to create unity between the elements of sky and earth, where for a moment, time stands still.
