Contemplation - a self portrait

I've never done a self portrait so it was definitely a challenge and learning experience. I cropped the image close to focus on my face and expression. I used cool, outside lighting on one side and the warm indoor light on the other. This created the lights and darks I was looking for. My objective was to not only get an accurate rendition, but to convey the emotion in my face and eyes in particular. Materials used were Pastelmat, soft pastels and pastel pencils.
