Echo in the Canyon

Echo in the Canyon, Emerging Pastel Artist
Echo in the Canyon
Last summer I adopted a 4-month-old colt from the Tehachapi Oak Creek Wild Morgan herd after meeting him during our artist weekend. This little horse, which I named Echo, is now a yearling and has stolen my heart. He entertains me daily with his antics, zooming around the ranch, playing with the other horses, and flipping the brushes out of the grooming bucket with his teeth. Yet, when he is still, he gives the most affectionate hugs. This painting depicts him living the good lifeā€”his hoofbeats echoing through the springtime canyon under a rare pink sky, a blade of grass hanging from his mouth.

To create this colorful composition, I did an underpainting using Dr. Ph. Martin concentrated watercolors, and then applied the pastel. I added Sennelier iridescent pastels as a finishing touch.
